Duct Envelope Tightness (DET) Verifier Training

This 1-day course is designed by the Midwest Home Performance Association (Formerly the IL Association of Energy Raters – IAER) to introduce the skills necessary to become a Duct and Envelope Tightness (DET) Verifier. This will certify you to perform the diagnostic testing required for new homes by the 2018 IL Energy Code, which was put into effect as of July 1st, 2019. If you’ve been thinking about getting BPI or HERS Certified but can’t yet make the investment, this DET Verifier certification can be your bridge to offering home performance testing services.

After successful completion of this course, you will be able to test the leakage of a building envelope and duct system and evaluate the results as measured against Illinois code requirements. Specific topics include: -Protocols for blower door and duct leakage testing -Calculations for ACH50 and percent duct leakage -Tips for successfully completing the written and in-field DET Verifier certification exams (must pass with a 75% on both written and field exams).

Classes typically begin at 8:00am but participants are encourged to be there about 7:00am. The price also includes lunch! Need to re-certify? Continuing education credits are required to maintain your BPI certification. Since we are in a rapidly changing industry it is important to continually improve your ability to properly diagnose homes and recommend improvements. We have several classes approved by BPI for Continuing Education Units (CEU’s). All BPI Certified Professionals are required to re-certify every 3 years. You can bypass parts of the BPI Rectification process by earning a number of Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) you have earned and the experience you have gained prior to re-certifying.
